TrekMovie.com vahendab, et kuulujuttude tasemel räägitakse TNG kõrgdefinitsioonis ümber tegemisest, esialgu näitamiseks teatavatel internetilehekülgedel, aga hiljem ka blu-rayl avaldamiseks.
Seni on seda takistanud peamiselt seik, et kõik TNG eriefektidega kaadrid tehti videole, mitte filmilindile, mis pakub kõrgemat resolutsiooni ning originaalkaadrite leidmine ja uute efektide tegemine oleks väga raske ja kallis töö:

| Last summer Van Citter stated that there were significant technical issues that made remastering TNG in HD more problematic than remastering the original Star Trek series. One of the main issues is that the special effects for TNG were done in video, and redoing all the effects would be much more expensive than with the TOS Remastered project. Mike Okuda, who was one of the producers for 2006-2008 project to remastered the original Star Trek series, once told TrekMovie a particularly problematic issue is with the USS Enterprise D bridge screen. Unlike the original series, characters often stood or walked in front of the screen and so to swap out new digital effects, they would have to manually rotoscope out all the moving actors. However, last summer CBS’ Van Citers also noted that he was "optimistic" CBS would eventually figure out how to deliver Star Trek: The Next Generation in HD. |
CBS ise esialgu kuulujuttu ei kommenteerinud, nii et jääme ootama, kas sellest ka midagi põnevat koorub. Tore oleks see küll, sest vähemalt paari esimese hooaja DVD-del on pilt ikka üsna kole.

Igal juhul head uudised, ise lootsin ka vaikselt, et äkki tehnoloogia jõuab TNG salvestusvormi piirangutele lõpuks järele.
Hetkel on veel suhteliselt raske ette kujutada kui hea uuendatud TNG üldse välja näha saab, aga elame näeme.

Arvestades, et TNG vanade osade kordused said Syfy Channelil sisuliselt sama palju vaatajaid kui SGU uued osad, siis pole siin midagi imestada. Aga minul on hea meel, et Trek edasi elab ja seeläbi ka ehk uue publikuni jõuab. Mul endal on küll juba 3-7 hooaja DVD-d olemas, nii et blu-raysid ma kindlasti ostma ei hakka, aga paljudele on see kindlasti heaks uudiseks (muidugi eeldusel et see üldse tõeks saab).

| Multiple sources I spoke with at Comic-Con have also confirmed our report from earlier this year that CBS is hard at work on Star Trek: The Next Generation – Remastered for Blu-ray release starting sometime in 2012. The latest word is that 4 test episodes are currently being worked on for release as a sampler/demo BD disc of the project, and that sampler disc will somehow be available to fans by the end of this year. |

No nad ju võiksid ST-le vabsee uue mõõtme ju nüüd anda. Peale seda uut Treki filmi on ju kogu Star Trek univers ju hoopis teine kui enne... Saaks ju TOSi kah täiesti uueks teha uute näitlejatega ja TNG samuti... Nüüd on ju teine reaalsus trekis ja ka sarjad saaks uued teha. Schow must gone one...

According to The Digital Bits on September 28 — which is the 24th anniversary of the show’s first broadcast in 1987 — CBS may officially announce the Star Trek: The Next Generation – Remastered Blu-ray sampler disc. Digital Bits further reports that the disc is likely to be available in the U.S. in early December, “on or around 12/6″.
As previously reported, CBS is expected to roll out TNG in Blu-ray during 2012–the 25th anniversary year. As Digital Bits reported earlier this month, the four rumored episodes are the two-part series premiere “Encounter at Farpoint”, the season three episode “Sins of the Father” and the season five episode “The Inner Light”. |

Kui asi tõesti selleni viib, et TNG kõik hooajad tulevad blu-ray peale välja, olen mina kindel ostja. Seni pole TNG-d sellepärast hankinud, et hetkel on just selle sarja visuaalne kvaliteet kõige madalam ning kaasaegse ekraani peal võrdlemisi kole vaadata.

Selline hakkab siis esimene TNG blu-ray karp välja nägema.

| Ahead of the possible announcement and/or preview trailer release, we also have our first look at what is likely the cover art [via TrekWeb] for the Blu-ray disc. The cover art was attached to a listing at Amazon.de for Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Next Level – A Taste of TNG in High-Definition. It’s not clear if this will be the cover art CBS / Paramount decides to go with for the US release. The Amazon.de listing also confirms the previously rumored episodes and lists a December 15 release date. The Digital Bits, however, says the sampler disc is expected to be released in early December in the US, "on or about 12/6". |

Kõik 178 TNG episoodi tulevad alates järgmisest aastast blu-rayle. Tähelepanuväärne on see, et episoodid pannakse sisuliselt uuesti kokku originaalsetest filmilintidest, mitte aga videote põhjal, millele episoodid monteeriti. Erinevalt TOS-ist, mis noorenduskuuri läbides sai ka uued CGI efektid, TNG puhul seda siiski ei tehta ning originaalsed efektid muudetakse lihtsalt digitaalselt HD jaoks sobivaks.

| Two weeks ago we reported on new details for the Star Trek: The Next Generation – Remastered project. As was rumored, today CBS has made details of the project official. All 178 episodes will be re-scanned from the original films elements and visual effects elements will be re-composited into a 1080p workflow for mastering onto Blu-ray and runs on syndicated television and digital distribution (i.e. Netflix) both domestically and internationally. |

The remastering process
CBS is starting from scratch using the original film negatives, and editing the episodes together precisely as they were when they originally aired between 1987 and 1994.
Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned from the film elements available.
The freshly cut film will be transferred to high definition with 7.1 DTS Master Audio.
Work is being done in conjunction with Denise and Michael Okuda, who are on board as consultants.
Aspect ratio for Blu-ray release is the original aspect ratio as it aired on televsion – 1.33:1 (4:3) - confirmed by TrekMovie.com and The Digital Bits

Igati positiivne uudis minu arvates, eriti seetõttu, et DVD-de peal on vähemalt paari esimese hooaja visuaalne kvaliteet kehvavõitu. Ise oleksin küll lootnud, et leitakse ka võimalus episoodid laiekraani mõõtu panna, kuid seda ei lubaks ilmselt osa stseenide kompositsioon. Kindlasti on aga TNG näol tegu sarjaga, mis väärib tutvustamist ka uuele põlvkonnale ning selleks on HD-resolutsioon paratamatult vajalik.
