Üks järgmisel hooajal tulev sari, millel võiks silma peal hoida, on Masters of SciFi. Tegu on antoloogia sarjaga (a'la The Twilight Zone), filmimisega loodetakse alustada märtsis (eeldatav pikkus on 13 osa).

Praeguse plaani kohaselt on lugude hulgas Ray Bradbury "Dark They Were, And Golden-Eyed", Harlan Ellison'i "'Repent, Harlequin!' Said The Ticktockman", Stanislav Lem'i "The Hunt", H.G. Wells'i "The Crystal Egg". Läbirääkimised käivad Isaac Asimov'i "The Last Question" ja Robert Heinlein'i "Jerry Was A Man" kaasamiseks. Selline parimate lühilugude esitlus tundub päris huvitav. Lisaks pole viimaselajal antoloogia sarju välja tulnud.

Sarja hakkab tootma sama firma, kes tänavu tõi välja Masters of Horror'i ( http://www.mastersofhorror.net/ ) sarja. Pole horror'i fänn, kuid vaatasin esimese osa ära ning oli päris hea. Horror'i fännidele igatahes pilkuheitmist väärt.

See tõotab küll väga huvitav asi tulla.
Kvaliteet tundub igatahes taga olevat; tänud teavitamast. Cool

Sattusin sellise info peale:
Tsiteerin::
ABC has picked up a new sci-fi project, ordering four episodes of Masters of Science Fiction from IDT Entertainment and Industry Entertainment. An anthology series, each episode will present works of noted sci-fi authors including Ray Bradbury, Michael Tolkin and Isaac Asimov. Production is expected to begin in May, with a launch on ABC projected to some time this summer.

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=35341

A few things here and in the link need to be clarified.

I've also been up to my ears in work, of which some points follow, and
that has taken me a great deal off the beacon of late.

First, to the matter at hand...and just to get one error out of the
way...Robert Sheckle's "Watchbird" was adapted by me alone; Mike
Cassutt is adapting Varley's "Persistence of Vision." The press
release conflated the two. (I didn't know about the release until Mike
called me, chagrined, but I told him not to sweat it, errors happen.
This is now in the process of being corrected.)

The anthology is a by-invitation deal, it's just me, Mike, Harlan
Ellison, Michael Tolkin, Ray Bradbury and a couple of others who, for
whatever bizarre reason, sombody decided would constitute the scripts
half of the Masters equation (the other half being the original short
story).

Last summer, I was called into a meeting with the MoSF folks and
offered the show runner position. It would be a short order show,
maybe 6-13 episodes, to shoot in the fall. This happened at roughly
the same time that I placed a development deal for my own series with
Touchstone, which would not go to the next level until the next May.
So the timing could not have been better. I would be able to go in,
tackle this, and be done with shooting by the time development moved
ahead on the Touchstone series.

But it took MoSF longer than expected to close the deal with ABC, and
now they're going to be starting production in May, which conflicts
with the Touchstone deal. Because there are contractual limitations
regarding what you can do or develop on show B while you're working on
show A, if I did the former, it would prohibit me from the work and
meetings necessary for the latter, especially since the former is in
Vancouver and the latter is in LA. So it came down to choosing between
a short-order gig running someone else's show, and my own series, and
though it was a painful decision, I have to go with the Touchstone
deal. Everybody understands the situation, and everybody's fine with
it.

So I got the "Watchbird" script in asap, and that will be one of the
first scripts into the production pipeline as soon as they can lock
down a director. I may or may not be able to be up there for filming
because the same time as they shoot *that,* we have to do
post-production and mixing on the 20 episode radio series I'm doing for
the CBC in Toronto, and that *has* to be finished at that time in order
to be available for broadcast in the late spring/summer and it's a huge
amount of work to get done, so I may have to opt to be in Toronto
rather than Vancouver (if this keeps up I may have to change
citizenship).

Then later in May the Touchstone deal kicks in, and that will take up a
huge block of time. I've also been approached by a major director (one
of the biggest in town) who wants to go in and pitch a project of mine
at the networks for a series, and if that that goes into development
I'm going to be up to my ass in alligators for some time...all of that
on top of the comics work, of course.

I also just finished writing a screenplay (historical drama, very
serious, based on a true story) that is getting some serious heat and
name people attached to it, so we'll see where that goes as well.

Razz

Esialgu on see sari minu jaoks on hold, kuna on palju muudki vaadata. Razz

Mõned "Masters of Science Fiction" uudised:
http://www.playbackmag.com/articles/magazine/20060626/masters.html
Tsiteerin::
Vancouver - U.S. prodcos Industry Entertainment and IDT Entertainment are shooting the first season of Masters of Science Fiction for ABC in Vancouver. The anthology series is a spinoff of the similar Masters of Horror series currently shooting its second season nearby for Showtime.

The 6 x 60 Science Fiction eps are based on the works of influential writers including Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison, with Mark Rydell (James Dean), Michael Tolkin (Deep Impact) and Michael Petroni (Queen of the Damned) among the directors. The series is being executive produced by Brad Mendelsohn (The 24th Day), Andrew Deane (Joan of Arc), Keith Addis (Masters of Horror), Morris Berger (Room 6), Steve Brown and John Hyde (The Happy Elf ). The shoot runs until early August.

http://trekweb.com/articles/2006/06/15/Jonathan-Frakes-to-Direct-Masters-of.shtml
Tsiteerin::
Star Trek The Next Generation actor/director Jonathan Frakes will
direct a segment of Masters of Science Fiction TV Series entitled "The
Discarded", based on a short story by Harlan Ellison (who wrote TOS
classic episode"The City on the Edge of Forever"), scripted by Ellison
and Josh Olson (Academy Award-nominee A History of Violence).

Ellison posted this on his discussion board on Monday:

"Josh's and my "The Discarded" will shoot in Vancouver July 23rd to
August 6th, approximately. I'll likely go up there for the shoot. Oh,
and by the way, it'll be aptly directed by Jonathan Frakes. Produced by
Keith Addis."

The story deals with a ship of mutants that have been exiled from Earth
due to their ugliness. An Earth representative seeks their cooperation
when they are the only hope of curing a disease on the home planet.

The story was published in 1959 and anthologized in Ellison's Paingod
and Other Delusions. He indicated that he's very proud of the
adaptation.

Natuke uut infot (ABC pressiteade):
Tsiteerin::
AWARD-WINNING CAST SET TO STAR IN OF MASTERS OF SCIENCE FICTION FOR THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK

Judy Davis, Sam Waterston, Anne Heche, Malcolm McDowell, Terry OQuinn, Elisabeth Rohm, Clifton Collins, Jr., Kimberly Elise, Sean Astin, James Cromwell, Brian Dennehy, John Hurt and James Denton on Board Mark Rydell, Michael Tolkin, Harold Becker, Darnell Martin, Michael Petroni and Jonathan Frakes Among Directors Set

Professor Stephen Hawking to Narrate Series

A stellar lineup of actors and directors, along with one of the great minds of the science world, are set for ABCs new hour-long anthology series, Masters of Science Fiction.

Academy Award nominee and Emmy nominee Sam Waterston, two-time Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Judy Davis and Anne Heche (ABCs upcoming MEN IN TREES), internationally renowned star Malcolm McDowell, Terry OQuinn (ABCs Lost), Elizabeth Rohm (Law & Order), Emmy nominee Clifton Collins, Jr. (ABCs Alias), Kimberly Elise (Close to Home) Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Academy Award nominee James Cromwell (Spider-Man 3), two-time Tony Award winner and Emmy winner Brian Dennehy, two-time Academy Award nominee John Hurt and James Denton (ABCs Desperate Housewives) have been cast in the six installments of the series, which films in Vancouver. Masters of Science Fiction, from IDT Entertainment in association with Industry Entertainment and its Vancouver partner, Reunion Pictures, is based on some of the genres most popular and highly regarded short stories, and will air next season on the network.

Acclaimed physicist Professor Stephen Hawking will introduce each episode. Award-winning director Mark Rydell (On Golden Pond, The River, The Rose) and writer/director Michael Tolkin (The Player, The Rapture, The Burning Season) directed the first two episodes. Directors for the subsequent four episodes include Harold Becker (Sea of Love, Malice, Mercury Rising), Darnell Martin (Their Eyes Were Watching God, I Like It Like That), Michael Petroni (Til Human Voices Wake Us, Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Voyager, Roswell).

The first episode is A Clean Escape, based on Nebula Award-winning author John Kessels short story. Rydell directs from a script by Sam Egan (The Outer Limits). In A Clean Escape, set not too far in a post-Apocalyptic future, psychiatrist Dr. Deanna Evans (Judy Davis) interrogates a distinguished, if befuddled, man (Sam Waterston) who appears to be suffering from a lapse in memory. Why cant he remember and why is it so important that she uncover the secret he holds deep inside?

The second installment is Jerry Was a Man, featuring Anne Heche and Malcolm McDowell. Tolkin directs from a script he wrote based on the classic Robert Heinlein story. Set in the future, the worlds seventh richest couple, the van Vogels, find their lives changed forever when they acquire an anthropoid named Jerry.

The third episode, The General Zapped an Angel, stars Terry OQuinn and Elisabeth Rohm. Based on the short story by Howard Fast (Spartacus, Citizen Tom Paine) the episode opens outside Baghdad, where U.S. soldiers discover a mysterious casualty one they cant even identify as human.

The fourth installment is Little Brother, written and adapted for the screen by Walter Mosley (Devil in a Blue Dress) and directed by Darnell Martin. Featuring Clifton Collins, Jr., and Kimberly Elise, Little Brother is set in the future, where courtrooms exist without human judges or juries, and automated justice is the law of the land.

Episode five is Watchbird, based on the short story by the legendary Robert Sheckley and written Sam Egan. The episode stars Sean Astin and James Cromwell and is directed by Harold Becker. In Watchbird, as society creates robotic droids to prevent killing before it takes place, they discover that all life depends on a fragile formula of killing and death.

The sixth episode is The Discarded, based on the short story by seven-time Hugo Award winner, three-time Nebula Award winner and Science Fiction Grand Master Laureate Harlan Ellison. The episode is written by Harlan Ellison and 2005 Academy Award nominee Josh Olson (A History of Violence). Brian Dennehy, John Hurt and James Denton star in this ultimate story of despised minorities sentenced to drift in the darkness of outer space forever. These men and women make a desperate pact in the hope of being offered refuge at home on Earth.

Nõus, samuti tundub "The Discarded" neist kõige huvitavam. Igatahes see "The General Zapped an Angel" tundub kõige kahtlasem - tundub, et tegu mingil üsna uuel jutukesel põhineva looga. Ja pealegi olen ma ühte sarnast Sci-Fi Channeli filmi juba näinud, nimelt Manticore - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417943/

Enterprise kirjutas:

Smile
Tegu on adaptsiooniga, arvatavasti muudeti sõja nimi ajakohasemaks.

ep1 - John Kessel "A Clean Escape"
ep2 - Robert A.Heinlein "Jerry Was a Man"
ep3 - Howard Fast "The General Zapped an Angel"
ep4 - Walter Mosley "Little Brother"
ep5 - Robert Sheckley "Watchbird"
ep6 - Harlan Ellison "The Discarded"

2 viimast tunduvad huvitavad, BAAS'is on neil ka küllalt head arvustused.

Esimene osa Masters Of Science Fictionist istus vägagi. Sisuliselt oli tegemist tõesti The Outer Limitsi klooniga, aga hea ulme on hea ulme sellest hoolimata.
9/10

Samuti vaatasin ära Masters of Horrori esimese hooaja.
Enda lemmikud: "Cigarette Burns", "Jenifer", "Dance Of The Dead" ja "The Fair Haired Child".

Masters of Science Fiction - 1x01 - "A Clean Escape"

Masters of Science Fiction - 1x02 - "The Awakening"
